I have uploaded two more image files:

Task completed apart from tidying up.
A by product of the process, due to cross comparison, as the LS text format was ajusted to mirror the traditional print, OCR errors were highlighted, and so, corrected.

The word looks unpronounceable, is it correct, or is it a misprint in the original?

Another case of LS found in Historical Spelling.
That makes 3 so far that I have found:
Page 65: "Do-bheannaigh sé dhóibh, agus do bheannuigheadar
do san." "dhóibh" spelled "dhóiv".
Page 69: "Do léim an rothaidhe den rothar agus do dhein sé fé dhéin an tuir.", "sé" should not be spelled with an 'h' as in the original.
Page 75: "Ní hé an bhreaghthacht a chuireann an corcán ar fiochaigh, arsa máthair lena mac a bhí ag cuimhneamhar chailín deas a, phósadh." "bhí" spelled "ví" in original.

Minor problem: I am sure that a couple of bits of LS have crept into the Historical Spelling.  The first I found was obvious, a 'v' where 'bh' should have been, but here on page 69, we have, I think, indeed, I am sure, that in the sentence:"Do léim an rothaidhe den rothar
agus do dhein sé fé dhéin an tuir.", "sé" should not be spelled with an 'h' as in the original.

Now up to page 55.  That is the 62nd page.  Just 30 to go.
Feedback needed.
I have broken my rule of sticking exactly to the original layout.
In the exercises, the text is written in LS an the left-hand page, and on the right-hand in the 'historical' spelling.  Clearly, this was done to enable comparison of the two systems, however, the original typsetter only followed the sequence of paragraphs. I have adjusted the format so that the lines on facing pages have the same words in the same position, so that they can be more easily matched.

Dave Webb has given me his corrections to page 1:
1. circe - should be cirte
2. gan gur - should be gan gus
    Dave Webb added later: "I should say it is gan GHUS with lenition..."
3. marthanAch - should be marthanach
4. tapaid - should be tapaidh
5. ar dcúis - should be ar dtúis
6. fhorlámhar - should be fhorlámhas

Windische: A Concise Irish Grammar

I scanned it in grey-scale so that the hand written notes could be seen.
The result was a 250MB file, far too big for uploading to Box.net, so I had to optimise it severely.
OCR worked to a greater or lesser extent on nearly all pages, but of course, it will not work on the optimised copy, (good job I OCRed before optimising),  which you can find, quite easily readable here:

It looks like a good candidate to retypeset, but there is very small type, and more than a little Greek.
There could be problems.

It is done.
Now proofreading is needed.
2 or 3 errors per page are expected.

What next? Well, the LS version was helpful in sorting some bits, however, the pagination of the LS does not match this version, and that needs fixing.
Also, there are in the LS version, some missing section headings.
Firstly, though, the LS needs to be retypeset in its original format.

I feel that the LS code needs some modification, as it retains some diphthongs, the pronunciation of which is not always immediately obvious.  My suggested modification would be the total elimination of diphthongs by introducing the glides 'y' and 'w'.

Next however, Windische.

Phew! that finishes the text

So, the text is finished.
I noticed in the original, 2 cases of 'Lentulus' spelled as 'Lentuluis', in the first case the LS text did not support this spelling, so I rejected it with a footnote.  However in the second case, the LS text supported the spelling, and from what tiny little I can understand of the text, it looked as if it might be a vocative, so I let it stand, also with a footnote.
Next come the Foclóirín.
This should be a little easier, at least some of it is in English.

Catilína in Simplified Spelling

Thanks to the generosity of David Webb, I have been able to scan and upload a pdf image file of a version of Catilína, written by Fr. P O' Leary in Shán Ó Cuív's Simplified Spelling.

The simplified spelling will enable you to read the Irish of Fr P Ó Leary in his native dialect.

Formatting errors in Joyce.

I tried to read the Joyce file on an old Mac, running Classic, but found it failed to load correctly.  Subsequently examining the master files, I found some of the formatting had been corrupted.
Therefore I have corrected the Doc File, and re-printed to PDF.  This destroyed all the internal links, which I have had to reconnect.
During the re-linking, I found specific format errors on pages:
vii, viii, 40, 73, 74, 75, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80, 81, 118.
All these were format errors, involving either case, or font.  Nothing of major substance, except the font errors were between Georgia and Gael font.  The latter may have been a cause for confusion.
I have optimized the file to PDF 5.0 standard, so it should be readable ok on Mac Classic, using Reader 5.05.

Two more sections.

The next page boundary after the next section gives us here two sections.

Joyce and Donovan

I have printed a hard copy of Joyce, and noticed one or three typos. Pages 39 & 69.
Latest version has been uploaded.
As for Donovan, The only file worth using exceeds 25MB, so I have split it.
The two files are <Preface.pfd> and <BodyText.pdf>
The two files can be found in the <Donovan> folder in the <SPIL> folder.

I would like to re-typeset these, but with this bloody DVT, computer time is severely limited, so it must wait.

I also found a word with what was either an error, or a doubling of an eclipsable consonnant in place of the modern changed character.  ie, tt for dt.
Is it an error, or just using an archaic style?

Progress at 4 pages per day seems to be sustainable.
Bear in mind, this is a part-time hobby/job.
Page 84 it is now.
52 pages to go, that suggests 13 days to go.
Target date is then 24th August.

Work continues as and when.
Assistance with proofreading would be a positive help.
Proofreading is best done while the work is in progress.
That way, when the re-typesetting is done, the proofreading is nearly done.

Slow progress on Joyce.

While working on Joyce, I came upon a reference to a key grammar by O'Donovan.  I checked Archive.org, and found 5 copies.  The best, at over 26MB is too big for Box.net, so I have selected a second best.
Although there are 5 copies, of the same edition, each one has minor defects, crumpled pages, slipped pages, and missing pages, as well a pages blurred to a greater or lesser degree.
I will try to assemble a good copy from this mess.
Meanwhile, getting back to Joyce,  I have reset some more pages, and now have completed up tp page 76.  Some of these tables are slow work, but progress is still good.

Re-typsetting Joyce's Grammar of Irish has now reached page 70.  Last written page is 136.  The file, named: "AGrammarOfThe IrishLanguage.pdf" can be found in the SPIL folder.

Introduction.

As an introduction, let me just give you the link to my library.

This is a folder/directory in Box.Net where I have uploaded a number of pdf image files gleaned mostly from either Google Books, or Archive.Org.

I have for the most part done very little to them, but some, which were damaged, I have repaired to the limits of what is possible, and most of them, I have numbered the pages, and allocated a more meaninful file-name.

One or two, I have re-typeset, adhering closely to style, page and line.  The re-typset versions are usually in the same folder as the source file.  One re-typeset file, in the SPIL folder, is 'Work in Progress', and comments would be appreciated, as some of the Irish text in the original can be unclear, and the scribbles on some pages indicate that the original text is suspect.
